The Trials of John Mill
Throughout his 30-year journey to examine New Testament manuscripts, John Mill faced a variety of challenges. From deciphering faded texts to accessing restricted archives, numerous obstacles inhibited his journey across 17th century Europe. Despite these difficulties, Mill’s passion to preserve the contents of each unique, handwritten text and ensure the integrity of the New Testament culminated in a brilliant contribution to New Testament Textual Criticism.
CSNTM: Overcoming Modern Challenges
Just as John Mill encountered many challenges in his time, CSNTM faces its own set of difficulties in the modern era. Our team is dedicated to:
- Accessing Manuscripts: Collaborating with institutions worldwide (there are more than 250 in nearly 50 countries!) to gain access to the artifacts in their care.
- Digitizing Fragile Documents: Using cutting-edge technology to capture high-resolution images of delicate manuscripts without hastening further deterioration.
- Ensuring World-wide Accessibility: Making these digitized treasures available online for scholars and non-scholars alike, while protecting the rights of institutions.
Despite common challenges like these, our mission remains steadfast and sure. Thanks to your ongoing support, we continue to overcome these obstacles and make significant strides in the preservation and study of Greek New Testament manuscripts.
